So I've been trying out a new browser called Flock. I had already ditched Internet Explorer years ago and have been using a combination of mostly Firefox and some Opera. I heard about Flock's beta last year and version 1 came out a few months ago.
Basically, Flock is a browser based off of Firefox with a social twist. It currently has Facebook integrated as well as a slew of other websites like Youtube and Flickr among others. And they have plans on integrating Myspace as soon as they open their platform like Facebook (Myspace plans on doing this next year).
I've really enjoyed it, it keeps me logged into these sites after I set them up and I can quickly check for updates via a sidebar. It also has an integrated blog editor so when I see a picture or video I want to talk about, I can click it and type something and viola, posted.
I also like how it has a Firefox "feel" to it. I got tired of how static Internet Explorer is and how long it takes Microsoft to fix or update it. I mean IE finally got tabbed browsing this last year, but Opera had that feature almost 10 years ago!
And since it is based off of Firefox it's safer because less bad guys target it's exploits and when they do, it's usually patched faster. Also, there are lots of plug-ins that you can find to customize it to your browsing heart's delight. Also you may not need this, but I love the integrated spell checker (which is standard in Firefox also)!
IE is the world's standard, but only because it comes with windows pre-installed. Heck, what do you have to lose? It's free! And way more customizable. IE is a fine back-up browser, but use it as a back-up!
So whether you check it out or not, always remember that you have options. If your cell phone company had three free cell phones available, would you take the first one offered or would you be curious which one had the best features? Range? Battery life?
Also, another use for a second browser is if you share a computer and dislike logging in and out of websites you both use (email, social networks, etc). Using another browser means you use a separate set of internet cookies and each browser can keep you logged in at the same time.
Just try one out and if you still want to stay with IE, let me know.
